New York has a lot more to offer than shopping
New York is one of the top cities in the world and it attracts about 45 million visitors each year. Many come for the shopping and the entertainment venues, but there is also a lot more to do in the city. Why not try one of these more adventurous activities in the city.
How about seeing the city by bicycle? There is just no better way to get a feel for the city then travelling around it on a bicycle. Bike the Big Apple organizes tours all over New York and you will get to see all the diverse neighborhoods. You will see parts of the city that are just not available to those going on other types of tour. There are plenty of bike paths around the city so you will be able to travel safely. This really is a unique opportunity and it will also ensure that you stay physically in shape while you are in the city. Tours are available for half days and full days.
The Top of the Rock has an observation tower that will blow your mind with a spectacular view of New York. This is as high as the Empire State Building and the observation room is created in the design of a cruise liner deck. You can find the Top of the Rock at the GE Building.
Ellis Island is where most immigrants arrived in America until it stopped operating in 1954. If you have relatives who moved to the States prior to this time then this is where they would have arrived. The island is now a museum and it can be quite moving to see the place where a new life for so many people began. Those who arrived at this location had often travelled for weeks and left desperate living conditions back in their home countries. Twelve million people passed through Ellis Island on their way to a new life.
A different way of seeing New York is by air-tour. You can take an airplane or helicopter and really get to appreciate the sky-scrappers. A really memorable way of taking the journey is by hot air balloon.
How about seeing the city from the sea? The New York Beast speedboat ride will give you a huge adrenalin rush as you experience the city.
If you loved the Sopranos or Sex in the City then you can take a tour that will bring you to all the New York Locations that feature in these award winning TV shows.
Greenwood Cemetery might seem like a bit of a dreary place to visit but when you get there you will find that it really is a beautiful location where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
