With the cost of flights decreasing and access increasing to ever more weird and wonderful places around the globe, the whole notion of what makes a ‘holiday’ has changed greatly in recent years.
Whilst two weeks of fun in the sun would once have been a sufficient break for most people, mountain trekking, safaris or inter-railing around Europe are now a more likely holiday choice for countless people.
However, there is a lot to be said for the classic holiday destinations, where relaxation is the goal and the only chance of getting lost is in a good book. It can be all too easy to forget about the simple pleasures in life and many people should perhaps consider ditching their rucksack, hiking boots and compass and get back to the basics of what a vacation is supposed to be all about.
Florida has long been a popular holiday destination, and rightly so. Aptly nicknamed ‘the Sunshine State’, Florida is a great place to visit in winter or summer. Southern Florida records an average of 28 degrees Celsius in the summer months, whilst winter is a perfectly acceptable 20 degrees, ensuring that hotels in Orlando are busy all year round.
Orlando, in particular, is among the top Florida holiday destinations for many reasons, though two in particular bring the city into a league of its own.
Firstly, there is Walt Disney World Resort which technically occupies its own cities called Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake, but for all intents and purposes Orlando can claim to be the home of what is the largest and most visited recreational park in the whole world.
With four theme parks, two water parks, countless themed hotels and a myriad of shopping, dining and entertainment avenues, it is the perfect place for both adults and children to holiday for a week or more. Although the Walt Disney World Resort is still a mammoth recreation park, at its peak it was twice the size of Manhattan and about the same size as San Francisco.
Then, there is the world famous Universal Orland Resort, which is a theme park inspired by internationally acclaimed movies and TV shows such as Jaws, ET, Shrek, Terminator 2, the Simpsons and many more. Entertainment takes the form of exhilarating rides, 4-dimensional movie screenings and behind-the-scenes demonstrations of what exactly goes into the making of a classic blockbuster movie.
Orlando isn’t just about theme parks though. As a city located near to the coast, there are miles of sandy beaches to relax on, and given the year-round sunshine, this helps to ensure that Orlando hotels will always be in great demand.
