Popular Gower Beaches

The Gower Peninsula has a number of great beaches and bays for the visitor explore. Here is a selection of my personal favourites.

Caswell Bay is one of Gower's most popular family beaches. It is within easy reach of Swansea city centre and the village of Mumbles and also boasts its own car park on the opposite side of the road, at the entrance of Bishop's Wood nature reserve.

Oxwich Bay is one of the most popular beaches on the Gower Peninsula and attracts around 250,000 visitors a year. It has the second largest bay in the area, behind Rhossili, and is an area of national importance for flora and fauna. The popular Oxwich Bay Hotel is situated just 10 yards from the sea.

Three Cliffs Bay is fairly difficult to get to, so is not an ideal place for those with young children. There are two routes to the bay – one from the car park at Southgate and the other, more difficult route, from Parkmill. Three Cliffs Bay attracts rock climbers and trekkers and has some breathtaking views.

Port Eynon is located at the southernmost point of The Gower Peninsula. Of all Gower's beaches, this is one of the most tourist-oriented. It has a range of shops that include beach and surf wear, buck and spade and fish & chips. Port Eynon also has a youth hostel, which is run by the Youth Hostel Association. This is located on the beach front.

Rhossili is maybe one of the most picturesque bays in Gower, and also the longest. This is where you will also find the local landmark known as Worm's Head – a strange serpent-like promontory. At low tide, you can walk across the causeway, but beware that many people have been stuck on the head once the tide has started coming in.

British people are known for their tea drinking, but unfortunately they mostly drink over-brewed tea with milk and sugar. For the tea connoisseur this is a complete no-no. So if you’re visiting London and want to buy some quality black, oolong, green or white tea, where should you head. This is my personal choice of the best tea shops in London.
