Presenting Paris

An abundance of iconic landmarks and historical sites of interest make Paris a city well worth visiting for these reasons alone. Festivals throughout the year offer something a little different and you can truly sample a taste of Parisian life by taking part in some of the annual events that are so popular with residents and tourists alike.

The beginning of the year heralds New Year celebrations aplenty. Comme A Vienne Opera Comique is a musical tradition which welcomes in the New Year Viennese style. The Viennese New Year’s Day concert is held each year at the Salle Favart.

Chinese New Year celebrations are usually held towards the end of January and are another lively way to celebrate the year ahead. The Chinese community celebrate with parades, food, live entertainment and other festivities throughout the Quartier Chinois, from Place d’Italie to the Porte de Choisy in the 13th arrondissement.

For the true romantic, the Festival of St Valentine takes place in February and presents the perfect opportunity to woo your loved one.

The city re-assigns many of its illuminated, digital message boards to display sentiments of love and allows individuals from all over the world to post their messages on them, so if you have love to declare then this is the time and place to do it!

Fashion lovers are in for a treat in March as this is the month of Paris Fashion Week. The Carrousel de Louvre hosts the final leg of the world-wide fashion tour where designers, brands and fashion houses display their latest designs and collections in runway shows.

March is also film festival time in Paris. The Cinema Gaumont Marignan is the centre of attention and screens a whole host of locally produced works as well as the creations of directors from all over Europe. Paris film festival is usually held in late March and runs into early April.

Another popular event on the Parisian calendar is the Foire du Trone, one of France’s largest country fairs which is held in May and attracts around five million people every year. Rides, live entertainment and circus performers keep everyone happy.

July plays host to the most important holiday in the country, Bastille Day. Celebrating the commencement of the French Revolution and the storming of the Bastille, the whole country joins together in celebration and this momentous event is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in some authentic French celebrations and learn a little about the history and culture too.

Taking you from summer through to winter is the Autumn Festival, a four month extravaganza during which a number of venues all over Paris host an arts festival which includes theatrical performances, movies and live music concerts.

There is plenty happening in France’s capital city throughout the year and no matter what time you decide to visit it might be worth looking out for Paris Deals which help you to take advantage of your trip away and give you better value for money.
