Timothy Tyson has spent much of 2007 driving around the state of Florida. See what he learned about Saint Johns County Florida
Saint Johns County Florida boasts centuries of history and attracts more than six million visitors from around the world every year. With more than 430 historic attractions in the county seat of St. Augustine alone, Saint Johns County neatly combines fun and interactive learning experiences with the relaxation and Florida beach atmosphere that the state is so well-known for. Countless events and festivals are held throughout the year including the famed Nights of Lights festival at Christmastime and the Great St. Johns County Fair during the spring.
Lying in the northeast of Florida, Saint Johns County has no less then forty-two miles of beautiful beaches that play host to surfing, fishing, swimming and the favorite pastime of sun-bathing. The prime Atlantic fishing draws contests and tournaments with crowds of thousands of enthusiasts attending. Known around the world as "America's First Romantic Destination", the county and the city of St. Augustine in particular are well-known for drawing visitors back time and again, often seeing them as permanent residents after only a few visits.
Known as the "Ancient City", St. Augustine is quite literally the oldest established city in the United States of America. Founded and established in 1565 by Spanish explorers, the city continues to play host to the evidence of its rich history with its many museums and other tourist attractions. Combining memories of the days of old with its more modern beach culture, St. Augustine is a favorite for both those looking to get some rest and relaxation as well as those visitors who come simply to take advantage of the opportunity for water sports presented by the Atlantic ocean.
Covering only 3.9 square kilometers, the beautiful seaside community of Crescent Beach has a small population of just under 1,000 people. A long time favorite for visitors due to its peace and tranquility, this beach village boasts an immediate proximity to the ocean and only a short drive to the larger metropolis of St. Augustine.
Renowned around the world for its tennis and golf opportunities, Ponte Vedra is another of Florida's sporting hotspots; the PGA Tour, ATP Tour and THE PLAYERS Championship all call the Ponte Vedra Beach area home. With hundreds of holes of golf and eleven Grand Slam-size tennis courts of both red clay and fresh grass as well as several beautiful resorts, Ponte Vedra is a favorite of both visitors and residents to Saint Johns County Florida.
