Singapore Zoological Gardens – a popular tourist attraction

One of the most increasingly popular zoo concepts in the contemporary world is the ‘open Zoo’ concept. The Singapore Zoological Gardens also known as the Singapore Zoo, is no exception when it comes to a modern day Open Zoo. This nationally noteworthy zoo is also known by locals as the Mandai Zoo.

The Singapore Zoo is visited by 1.5 million people each year from all across the world and by today it has become a popular and much loved tourist attraction.

Animals at the zoo are kept in spacious environments that allow them to roam around freely. The wet and dry moats keep the visitor and animals apart from each other. However, the more fierce animals from the cat family such as tigers, jaguars, leopards and tigers are safely kept in wide and appealingly landscaped safe enclosures.

This exceptional zoo boasts a total land area of 28 hectares and is currently maintained and managed by Wildlife Reserves Singapore. It was opened for public viewing on the 27th of June 1973 and was an inspiration of the Singaporean Government. It is estimated that approximately 9 million Singaporean dollars went in to the construction of this outstanding zoo.

The Singapore Zoological Gardens is home to about 2530 different kinds of animals of 315 species. 16% of the species found here at the zoo are considered threatened.

Some of the most important features of this unique zoo are that its animals are given total freedom since they are kept in spacious landscaped areas. The zoo has made their best effort to provide its animals to be in an environment that is quite similar to being in their natural habitat. The other important feature is that the zoo is a great place of knowledge. The zoo and its administrators have done their best to provide the visitor with valuable information on the conversation of wildlife and nature.

Those who visit this extraordinary Open Zoo will also have the opportunity to take a picture with their favourite animal. Elephant rides, Carousel rides and even Horse rides can be enjoyed here. Furthermore, there is a place to enjoy a snack in house.

The best way to explore the zoo is to stay at any of the nearby well serviced Singapore hotels. For example, Copthorne King's Hotel Singapore is one of the ideal places to stay since it offers home like comforts for any type of guest.
