The Penang is a Malaysian state and is situated in the northwestern cost of the Malaysian Peninsular near the Strait of Malacca. In the Malay language Penang is called Pulau Pinang and is one of the smallest states in Malaysia second only to the state of Perlis. While the state of Penang is the eighth most populated state in Malaysia, most of the inhabitants would be colloquially referred to as Penangite.
Penang has earned the name as the "food capital of Malaysia" due to its rather distinct cuisine. Shopping is also a major tourist attraction in Penang. Nonetheless if one is in Penang a must visit is the OE Design factory located in Penang. The visitor will be able to take a tour of the OE Design factory and witness the art of jewelry making in Penang. OE (Oeding Erdel) dates back to over 100 years and was formed in 1906 in Muenster, Germany. The factory that is located here in Penang was opened in the year 1974 and is situated at the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone. The OE factory at Penang focuses primarily on precious gems that are set in platinum (white gold) and gold. OE is an international brand and has won numerous prestigious awards creating more than 1, 500 unique designs annually.
