Ioannina is a city of Epirus, north-western Greece, in the region of Ioannina it is dominated by robust, fragrant pine trees, many of which grow within the city itself, especially around the old castle, or fortress walls. It is also called the city of legends and traditions. It has become a busy commercial centre for all of north western Greece. The Ioaninna is a mountainous region on the north west tip of the country and a part of the Pindos mountain range.

The city lies next to the lake Pamvotis. The old part of town is down by the lake front. People of Ioannina love to walk around the lake where there many cafe-bars.

The city is also famous for its spring water Zagori, which is sold over much of Greece The company owns two sources of natural mineral water with certain quality features, officially approved by the European Union. Ioannina is well known for the production of feta cheese.

It seems as if every third store in old Ioannina sells jewellery, silverware, hammered copper, and embossed brass work the traditional crafts you may see embroidered clothing or woven socks

The island on the lake it is the only inhabited lake-island of Europe. The village is very beautiful with stone paved streets and gardens full of flower. The pine forest surrounding it creates a dreamy picture. Traditional stone houses, paved yards, white washed stone benches, and flowers. The first habitants that came to the island were some noble and educated refugees from Constantinople. Today their main occupation is fishing and fish-farming.

The Castle of Ioannina is one of the oldest of its kind in the country. It was built by the Emperor Justinian in 528 AD. It is the oldest Byzantine Castle and it is contemporary to those of Didimotiho and Monemvasias. It consists of four parts the surrounding wall, the North west acropolis with the 'Aslan Pasha' mosque , the North east acropolis with the Its Kale mosque and last the town. The area that is enclosed by the walls

The Perama Cave is at least 2 million years old. It is Greeces largest cave in terms of area located a few minutes drive from the City centre of Ioannina. There are at least 14 different types of stalagmites and stalactites in curious shapes and sizes. There were the first Cave in Greece to be open to visitors.

I am looking for the name of a tree that grew in my yard in upstate NY. I believe it is called a locus or lotus tree. It has very thick bark(that makes the tree appear dead). The flower is almost the appearance of a lilac. I have only seen the blossom in white. It flowers in the late sprin, early summer and flowers have a beautiful fragrance. Syracuse University studied our trees and indicated they were possibly 100 years old.Do you know the correct name of the tree?
