The City That Sits on the Yangtze RiverShanghai is situated on the banks of the Yangtze River Delta in East China. Shanghai is one of the world's busiest ports, and became the largest cargo port in the world in 2005. Since 1842, the city has grown into a massive international port that has attracted people from around the globe. Shanghai, also named Hu or Shen. On Dec. 3, 2002, Shanghai succeeded in winning the bid for the sponsorship of World Expo 2010. It has also become the country's commercial and banking centre.
