There are specific sites that are worth visiting or for those who prefer, there are tourist routes that visitors can follow. The most popular routes are the Romantic Road, Castle Road and Fairy Tale Road. These take visitors past some of the famous German attractions and generally give visitors a more wholesome experience of the country.
There are a number of major cities in Germany that offer tourists all the amenities they could need, alongside the rich culture of the country. It is worthwhile to visit Berlin, Cologne, Dresden and Frankfurt, for a start. Many folk festivals take place during the carnival seasons at the end of lent and it is worthwhile to find out where these are taking place. Germany is also an artistic center with attractions ranging from museums and collections, to the performing arts. If you are lucky enough to catch the once-a-decade Oberammergau Passion Play, you are in for a treat.
The German landscape has much to offer. It boasts the high Bavarian Alps to the deep gorges, beautiful large lakes and rivers to huge forests. You can also visit the volcanic Eifel region and travel along the rugged coastline. In terms of sites to see, there are gorgeous historical palaces and castles spotted around the country, such as the Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria. There are also medieval towns that have been fantastically preserved, such as Bamberg and Hamelin. Germany boasts over 25 UNESCO world heritage sites among its major attractions.
Touring around Germany cannot be easier. Their train and rail system is highly developed. It is punctual and extensive, which makes traveling a pleasure. It also has the fast ICE trains and extensive motorways, as well as, as many as 30 airports. Germany borders nine different countries, which makes it an excellent choice for a base city when traveling in Europe.
In terms of accommodation, visitors to this fascinating country have a plethora of choices. You can choose from luxury hotels to traditional guest houses, from castle hotels to self-contained accommodation and many more. There are over 600 youth hostels available in Germany and thousands of campsites. Families can choose a farm holiday, complete with camping out, cow milking, night-time barbeques or sleeping in the hay. There are themed hotels and family hotels.
The guest accommodation sites can be found all over Germany and with the excellent transport system in the region, tourists can choose to stay wherever they feel they will enjoy their stay the most, without having to worry about getting to the major attractions.
