The Old-Line Wine in Italy

Italy is called by the Greek in ancient time the kingdom of wine. Italy has a long history of wine. Both of Cicero, the orator in the republic time of Italy, and Emperor Caesar were once addicted to wine so much. Now, there are still a lot of wine stoups in the ruin of Pompeii which becomes into a dead city overnight for the explosion of Vesuvius. It is said that when the Roman soldiers in ancient time go to the battlefield, they would take grape seedling together with their arms. And they would plant the seedling when they take the land. This is just the beginning that Italy spreads the grape seedling and brewage technique to the other countries in Europe.

Italy wine which benefits from the good environment now accounts for one fourth of the wine capacity in the world. Both of Italian wine export and consumption take number one place of the world. You can see the Italian people everywhere who are drinking wine uninhibited in the streets. This reminds people of the Bacchus statue which is created by Michelangelo in Florence. The drunken and beautiful young people are as if they are singing the praises of abundant benefaction from the nature and life.

There are all kinds of environments in Italy for its slight and long land from north to south. In the astringent environment of north Italy, people produce the world famous and thick red wine of excellent quality together with the spumente wine born in Italy. In middle Italy, there are firs standing in great numbers. You can see graperies all over the low hills. Grapes here can be made into spry and soft wine of Chianti. The south Italy where enjoys enough sunshine produces strong wine with high alcoholicity. Travelers can have a good taste in Italy that gathers varied wine with abundant characters.

Although there is no strict rule for drinking wine, it can help us better to taste wine after we know some common senses about it. Generally speaking, fish and plain boiled pork match white wine while other meat matches red wine or pink wine. According to the temporal taste, paste food and vegetable porridge match wine depending on the bechamel. The bechamel of fish or shellfish matches white wine while bechamel with meat matches red wine or pink wine.
