Things to Do in Negril, Jamaica

Negril is a newly developed resort destination on the west coast of Jamaica. Negril began appearing on the tourism radar of Jamaica when American hippies began arriving in droves in the 1960s and 70s. They were greeted by spectacular cliffs, and a seven-mile stretch of sandy beach that offered magical views of sunsets. On climbing a fleet of 100 steps they could also soak in the panoramic view atop the Negril Lighthouse built in 1894. But now there are more things to do in Negril, Jamaica.

Over the years, more attractions have been added to this destination on the west coast. Mayfield Falls and Mineral Spring is one of them. This hiking destination is great for nature lovers. A guided hike is offered up the river and through a bamboo bridge that bridges a gorge. Along the way you can stop at a wayside bar and grill.

Another pristine and quiet Negril destination is the YS Falls. This destination is sometimes covered as part of a Black River guided tour. But if you prefer serenity and freedom from the crowds, you need to check out this destination on a separate trip. It’s a great bathing and hiking destination.

Apart from nature-themed things to do in Negril, Jamaica, you can enjoy golf and other fun activities here. Anancy Fun Park is home to an 18-hole miniature golf course. It also features a go-kart track, a small lake where families can ride in a pontoon paddleboat, and a pond where visitors can enjoy fishing with borrowed fishing poles.

Another of the things to do in Negril, Jamaica is to go shopping at the craft market. The Negril river trips would also attract vacationers. You can also check out seaside villages as you drive through the southern coast, east from Negril. Deep sea charters, scuba diving, cliff diving and bike tours are some of the other exciting options for the adventurous.

By: John Tarr | 06/01/2010
While some parts of Nottingham have a rich history, the Canal Quarter is by contrast one of the newest, hottest hangouts in the city.
