Unmissable Sights in India

As one of the largest countries in the world, India has plenty of cities and destinations that the eager traveller can head to when visiting the country.

But would you know the best places to visit when going to this country on holiday?

Most people could name the Taj Mahal as one of the most famous sights in India, regardless of whether they had been to the country or not. It is over three hundred and fifty years old, and is one of the wonders of the world, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is quite clear then just how important this building is.

It took more than two decades to build the Taj Mahal, and constructed as it is from white marble it really does look stunning, no matter what time of day you visit it. You will find it in Agra, which is situated in the north of India.

But elsewhere in India there is plenty more to discover too. While you are in Agra you should also see Agra Fort. This is even older than the Taj Mahal, having been completed in 1573.

You may also hear it referred to as the Red Fort. The reason for this is clear when you actually go and see it – it is built from red sandstone. An incredible number of builders were involved in its creation during those eight years; nearly a million and a half in all!

This fort is viewed by many as being equally attractive to the traveller as the Taj Mahal, so it should certainly make your list of things to do while you are staying in India.

The country is fairly filled with stunning structures, and if you are staying in the east of India rather than the north, then the Mahabodhi Temple should be a highlight of your trip. This is located in Bodh Gaya, and like the two previous buildings we have mentioned it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The phrase ‘Mahabodhi’ stands for ‘great enlightenment’, and you will certainly appreciate the majesty and size of the place. The temple is thought to be hundreds of years old, but it was restored to a great degree during the 19th century. Thankfully it is now protected and looked after to enable many people to see and appreciate it without it falling into disrepair as it did so long ago.

There are of course many other sites in India which are worth visiting, but this gives you a taster of the best of them. If you wish to find out more information you can always contact tourist information locations direct. Cheap calls to India make this a reality now, and can help you to plan your Indian holiday with ease.
