This annual open men’s tournament gathers about 20 teams from different countries, where each team plays at least 4 games, to the delight of all soccer fans.
If you prefer aquatic sports, visit Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, to capture the breathtaking event known as the International Swan Boat Races, held from 12th to 13th September 2009. About 20 international teams partake in the event, and compete for 2 categories called Traditional and International. The traditional boat race equips 96-foot boats paddled by 50 men while the International race equips 48-foot boats paddled by 20 men. The boats are narrow and elaborately designed with their bows converted into swan heads to match the theme of this spectacular event.
For an unconventional sporting experience, witness or partake in the fund raising campaign by the name Vertical Marathon scheduled for the month of September, where competitors have to run up 1,093 steps covering 61 floors of a hotel until they reach a restaurant. This restaurant is also recorded as the Asia’s highest alfresco restaurant, built on the platform of the hotel’s former helicopter pad. The race begins at Thai Wah Tower 1 on the South Sathorn Road in Bangkok.
Apart from the events mentioned above, you can also partake in many sporting events organized in Bangkok, including Thailand Open tennis tournament at IMPACT Arena held in September 2009, Amari Midnight Run which comes around October 2009 held at Amari Watergate Hotel, Yara Bangkok Challenge - a combination of cycling, running, kayaking and swimming at the Minsiri Resort held in November 2009, and finally the Bangkok Marathon held on 22nd of November 2009 commencing from the Sanam Chai Road opposite the Royal Garden Palace.
