Visit Botswana: Where To Take An African Safari

Do you want a vacation within a vacation? If so, then you should consider taking a thrilling safari in Botswana. However, selecting one may at first seem like a daunting task-because so many safaris are available!

Botswana has the perfect environment for safaris. It is a little smaller than the U.S. state of Texas, with about 221,600 square miles. Compared to other popular safari destinations such as South Africa and Kenya, Botswana offers more wild animals and fewer observers. In fact, the government has reserved 17% of the nation as parkland.

If you are interested in an environment-friendly vacation, then you should certainly consider a safari in Botswana. These trips have a low impact on the environment, allowing you to leave only your footprints during your journey. Furthermore, on a local level the Batswanas receive education about safeguarding their environment. In fact, the government requires inhabitants to protect their local environment.

When choosing a particular safari in Botswana to enjoy, here are some important factors that you should consider:

1. Your budget.

In general, Botswana safaris tend to be quite expensive, ranging from $200-$2,000 per day (exclusive of airfare). Unfortunately, some safaris cost more than others do. For instance, if you are on a shoestring budget, then you should probably consider a walking safari rather than a fly-in safari.

However, you can make pricier safaris more affordable by taking certain actions. If you take a fly-in safari, split the airfare costs with friends. Stay in cheap lodges during your safari. In fact, these lodges actually include mini-safaris and tours themselves. You can even camp out for a rock-bottom nightly rate!

2. Your time available.

Some safaris may not be practical for you, depending on how much time you can spend on them. Thus, when selecting particular Botswana safaris, it is important to consider whether or not you would have enough time to complete them.

3. Your Botswana tourist destination

This is important because you can only enjoy certain safaris in certain regions. For instance, fly-in safaris are common in certain areas, while elephant-back safaris are available in other areas. When planning your tourist destinations, take the different safari types into consideration.

Here are some of the best and most popular safaris throughout Botswana:

  • Chobe National Park

This national park is roughly 4,100 square miles and includes a cornucopia of terrain, numerous big cats and elephants, and more than 90 species of fish!

  • Kalahari Desert

This includes the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, with a reserve of about 10,600 acres. The sanctuary safeguards both white and black rhinos.

  • Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pan National Park

This national park consists of a dry basin that is roughly 2,800 square miles. During the summer you can see several flamingos, zebras, and wildebeests here.

  • Mashatu Game Reserve

With an area of over 100,000 acres, this is Botswana's largest privately-owned wildlife region. Here you can enjoy watching a variety of wildlife, and ancient archeological sites.

  • Okavango Delta

With roughly 1,900 square miles, the Moremi Wildlife Reserve is located on this huge river delta (in fact, it is the world's largest one).

The government and people of Botswana welcome visitors to enjoy their land and wildlife, yet respect and responsibility for the area is crucial. In that, Batswana have created an environment perfect for a fun and educational safari expedition.
