Situated on the South West of Scotland Argyll is a scenic and picturesque part of Scotland that should not be missed. To get there you can fly from Glasgow Airport, travelling by road from Glasgow it will take you around 1.5 hours travelling time. Following the M8 to Gourock, to get to Dunoon itself you have to board a ferry for a 20 minute boat trip across, if you suffer from sea sickness or prefer to take a more scenic route then head towards Loch Lomond National Park and then follow directions to Dunoon.
Dunoon itself is a small resort town situated on the Cowall Penisula, and beside the Firth of Clyde. Argyll itself comprises the entire western seaboard between the Mull of Kintyre and Cape Wrath, towns within the Argyll area include Oban, Campbeltown, Dunoon and Inveraray.
There are many things to do in the Dunoon area, including the Holy Loch which during the Cold War was accosted by the US Navy and became a primary base for their submarine squadron. If you are interested in botany then there are several botanic gardens in the nearby area including the Benmore Botanic Gardens, of other interest in the Dunoon vicinity is Ardkinglas Woodland Garden, Castle House Museum and Morag’s Fairy Glen.
Those looking to sample the local food and drink should visit Fyne Ale Brewers; whom were voted the SIBA Champion Premium Ale of Scotland and SIBA Champion Bitter of Scotland in 2002. The area has a wide selection of family friendly hotels that offer the traditional Scottish hospitality and the delicious cuisine.
