The continents of Europe and Asia meet in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Turkey has an intoxicating mix of cultures, and for the sun-lovers it has enviable coast line and weather to suit.
Turkey is the gateway to Asia with only 3% of the country in Europe. So Turkey holidays take you on a journey to a different culture.
The southern coast of Turkey stretches for thousands of miles from Syria in the east to Greece in the west, on the shores of the Mediterranean with sandy beaches, coves, fishing villages, market towns and ancient ruins.
Turkish people are friendly and polite, and love to practise their English language skills on visitors, so be prepared to be offered a cup of traditional apple tea!
Istanbul, the only city in the world built on two continents, is the meeting point of Europe and Asia, uniting East and West on the subjects of culture, art and religion, at joining of two separate continents. Between the emerald slopes, the woods and the bays lies the Bosphorus. Horn-shaped Halic Bay, on the European side of Istanbul, is a most beautiful natural harbours.
With its thousands of islands, the Aegean Sea is inspiring and, according to myth, the islands were created after God created man and shook the spare clay into this Sea. Bodrum Peninsula is situated on the southwest coast of Turkey, in the eastern Aegean. Bodrum, in ancient times called Halicarnassus, was the site of the tomb of King Mausolus (4th century B.C.), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Here, picturesque Bodrum town lies where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean Sea, occupying the small and beautiful peninsula. One of the prettiest resorts of Turkey, the clear, deep blue warm sea is an inherent characteristic of the area.
Turkey holidays give you a chance to enjoy the culture of ancient civilisations, from Ephesus – home to Ionia's Temple of Diana, one of the Seven Wonders of the World – to Ankara, with some of the country’s most prized universities, conservatories, theatres and concert halls. The city boasts much history, including Hisar, the Byzantine citadel and the many Roman ruins to be found among mosques and monuments of Muslim Anatolia.
