Where To Go And What To Do In Washington D.C. The Capital Of The United States

Washington, D.C. formally the District of Columbia and known as Washington, the District, or simply D.C. is the capital of the United states and was founded on July 16th, 1790. It is the home of the President of the United States Of America and the city where all the important decisions are made about this great super power.

This is a truly historic city full of wonderful monuments that you must visit. The National Mall is a large park in the centre of city and located at its centre is the Washington Monument. Also located on the mall is the Lincoln Memorial which has been featured in films from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington to Planet of the Apes. There are so many historic places to visit that you would recognize from either T.V. or the movies such as gazing upon the Reflecting Poll to the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

The best part of Washington for me is collection of museums that make up the Smithsonian. The U.S. government partially funds the Smithsonian thus making it collections open to the public free of charge. The museums and galleries that make up the Smithsonian include the National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American Indians but my personnel favorite is the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. This is the home of some fabulous modern art and sculpture housed in a beautifully designed building and it’s gardens. You start at the top working your way down this beautiful gallery viewing some truly inspirational art.

There is so much history and culture to experience in Washington to that it is hard to write about it all in one article. It is a great place to walk around starting at the mall. You can just feel the history and recognizance the importance of the decisions that are made there.
