Skiing is one of the best thing to do in winter time. Going down from a mountain with 50km per hour seems to be pretty easy, but after making your first moves, it seems to more difficult. So, take some lessons and go on, it'll take some time but after a while you'll feel like the king of the hill. Next to that, in Bulgaria you'll find much more people who where never skiing and are trying together with you.
The Bulgarian ski resorts are pretty modern in comparing with other Eastern European places. The lifts and hotels are mostly new in the region and will do for even advance skiers. If you would like to pick the perfect hotel. Try to look on some maps on the internet how far they're from the piste and the beginning of the lifts. Because, there's nothing as nice as waking up and having no long walks to make before going to ski. Just put on your ski's and go from your hotel on the piste.
The prices in Bulgaria are still not that high as in France or Italy and with a little searching on the web you'll find very good offers for trips including hotel, ski materials and flights as low as most summer holidays. Skiing doesn't have to be expensive, as long as you find the right spot. Bansko and Broave are two small towns in summer but in winter those resorts start to become really party places. There are modern clubs and English looking pubs where most people will feel home and secure. The prices for foor and drinks will be still much lower than in the west. However, in some places they expect to entertain the more exclusive Bulgarian citizens. In there the prices may be as high as in other European skiing destinations!
After you're into skiing a little you maybe could try to rent snowboard equipment and try it out. It's more difficult than skiing and the other people on the track will laugh a little more. Because you'll be falling a lot at first. Ask some ski-school next to the track to help you for a couple of days with a private teacher and you'll be learning as fast as possible how to stay on your feet. Off course, drinking like most Bulgarians do seems to help a little, at least you won't feel that afraid. However, by drinking and skiing on the same time you'll notice that you don't control the speed that good. So, try to keep fresh and rest a lot.
In the evening there are good Bulgarian parties all around the resorts. With traditional music and roasted meat. Off course, strong liquer will be served a lot and if you don't watch out, this will keep you in bed next day. If you're not used of drinking this, just stay with your beer.
At Sofia Sensation we could give you some quotes on where to find the best deals on skiing in Bulgaria. However, there are many different options and the internet could give you the best start at first. This article was written by Thijs Becker.
