If you want to know how to take great photos, it’s important to notice that it’s all about your competence as a photographer, not about the newest high-tech camera. You probably know the statement "a picture is only as good as the photographer behind the camera". And it’s true – you can make great pictures with old or cheap cameras and bad and boring ones with the greatest DSLR. First of all, make sure that your picture is technically good: Immediately delete pictures that are out of focus or ones that are under- or overexposed. If your pictures are technically good, but kind of boring or like all the others, make sure you are aware of the following aspects:
1) Your subject. Identify the subject of your picture.
2) The Background. Avoid clutter, choose a simple background.
3) Perspective/ Point of View. Try different camera angles; consider the vertical format.
4) Light. Avoid direct sunlight and mid-day light. Use the tripod at dawn (tip: Gorillapod)
5) Read up on the Rule of Thirds, the Rule of Odds and the Golden ratio.
6) Get in close. Have an eye for detail. Learn to notice things.
7) Consider black & white photos. The results can be stunning.
8) Take your Camera everywhere you go. You will have much more opportunities to make pictures, gain experience and progress faster as a photographer. Having a camera everywhere with you will sharpen your eye for special moments in everyday life.
