Prolong the Battery Life of Your Digital Camera

As technology advances, digital cameras batteries are now packed in with more features and functions these days and while it does mean better results regarding the performance, the battery does get drained pretty quickly. In order for you to make your digital camera’s battery last longer, you need to keep a few things in your mind.

The LCD display is the screen where all the functions of a digital camera are displayed but it is also the part of a camera that consumes the battery the most. If you are careful in turning off the LCD display as soon as you are done using it, you can actually save your battery enough to make it last much longer on each full charge than earlier. Using the viewfinder while you are clicking photos means that you are not using the LCD during the shooting and thus you save a lot of power by using the viewfinder.

A flash that accompanies a camera is requires a large amount of power each times it is used. Use flash only when necessary; try to increase the light source otherwise, if possible. Flashing will become essential when you shoot in a dark place, so saving it for such circumstances is not only power saving but also wise.

Although it is not thought of normally, both types of zooming also drains quite a bit of power from your camera’s battery. As you zoom in to take a certain snap, take all the snaps that you need to, from that particular zoomed position because zooming in and out on a continuous basis drains the battery severely, especially as power is consumed just to hold that zoomed position steady as well.

LCD, flash and zoom are the three main consumers of your battery, but you can also try a few other things to further increase your battery’s life. Do not spend too much time in deciding which image to keep and which to delete, as it will use the LCD more than what is required. Take the pictures that you need to, and review them later when you are done transferring them onto your computer, this will save both time and power. Charge your battery fully each time you insert it inside the charger unlike most novice users who only half charge their batteries, this will increase the life of your battery. AC adapters are usually provided within the box of your digital camera, but if not, then buy an AC adapter and use it while you charge your battery to prolong the use.

Remember that Digital Camera batteries are susceptible to heat; moisture and sunlight thus exposing the battery to these will damage it. Keep it in a place that is relatively cooler and drier. Most digital cameras come pre-equipped with a power saver mode, use it at all times to save more while you are using it. Just like heat damages the battery, extreme cold also drains the battery life pretty quickly, so try to keep it in a relatively warm place when you are planning to use your camera during the frost or in a very cold place. These instructions roughly covers all that there is to know about using the power of your camera’s battery more judiciously, follow them as much as possible to get the most out of your battery.

Four months ago, after a couple of unexpected and rather invasive abdominal surgeries in the last year-and-a-half, I had a plastic surgeon perform an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) on me, to clean-up the scars and give me a new navel. Fun stuff! Anyway, the surgeon asked me to shoot a picture of one of his new laser tools in action. I did the shoot this afternoon.
