How to Create Mailing Lists for Marketing

Posted: Sep 03, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

One of the marketing techniques that business owners always find themselves taking into consideration is the use of mailing lists. Business owners are drawn to making these for a variety of reasons or purposes.

This is so especially those who want to either have direct contact with their clientele – potential or existing. Mailing lists allow any business, company, or organization to send in marketing materials that can introduce their new products or services, and announce special notices, such as company events or product sales, among others intent.

Creating these lists and sending materials over to those individuals can be tricky. For example, if you use these to send bulk emails, and then brace yourself for potential risks. By now, you should know that there is an anti-spam act. Any business that sends bulk emails, which are known as spam in common parlance, can be up for a foreclosure. You are forewarned, your online business as well as earning potential can be doomed. No one wants to put their online business to jeopardy, so before you thinking of sending bulk emails, imagine the consequences. A spam is a spam. It is unwelcome by any individual who has an email address.

On the other hand, if you want to keep a clean business reputation and make use of permissible marketing techniques, you need to abide by certain rules and regulations. One of those is to ask for permission from individuals who are part of your target clientele. You need to ask them if they want to be a part of your list and be able to receive promotional materials for your products and services. You have to let them sign up (have them provide you their names and contact information, such as email addresses) first before you proceed sending them mails. Or else, they will just consider your mail as another spam, which can make you be banned.

When creating lists for marketing, though, you have to take a careful look at your target clientele. If you are selling products and services that are for families, you may want to check the locations of those on your list. Those who are living in condominium units may not be families, but bachelors. You have to filter out those who receive your mails and the marketing materials included to ensure a turnaround for your business. Strategic thinking is a key here.

Once you have already created a list, review the promotional materials you are going to send over to them. The quality of your promotional materials in terms of design, content and message will sell your products and services to your target clientele. Make sure that you have your key message delivered straight and are supported by photographs as well as graphics.

On your promotional materials, text should also contain other necessary and detailed information, such as descriptions, product orders, and payment set up, among others that would help your prospect client in learning more about the products or services you are offering. Do not forget to include your contact information, too. Put your phone numbers, email address and website.

Avoid any relative words in advertising. Words like stronger, better, less are relative. Also avoid words indicating an extreme position like "No 1", "the best", "quickest" etc. Quantify any claim and support with a testimonial or certifying agency. Quantify quick delivery by saying how fast, most durable by saying how long. Mind can see and feel only quantified terms. So use quantified terms to make the prospects understand easily.
