A Dry Bed for Little Ones with Homeopathy

There are many areas of homeopathy in which a list of the top five remedies can be expounded upon to aid the newcomer to this incredible medicine. Bee stings, for instance, are usually met squarely for the present condition and also for future incidences with Ledum. Aconitum and Arnica are well reputed to address trauma to soft tissue or to the head. Enuresis, or bed wetting, is a little different. Not because it isn’t possible to consider, (it has a reputation for being one of the easiest illnesses to address) but because it’s person-specific.

No doubt, habitual wetting of the bed is a disheartening problem, particularly for a child who is of age to attend camp or spend the night at a cousin’s house. Take Becky, for example. Becky is a sweet, retiring little girl of 9 years old. She has blue eyes, sandy blond hair and a feminine disposition. She has never had a dry bed and has gone through a battery of tests. Her parents have taken her to three doctors who have offered surgery, meds and behavioral modification techniques. Becky’s mom refused the surgery on the grounds that it was too extreme for the situation. Smart mom. Her mom also refused drugs because the doctor admitted they wouldn’t cure the problem and would just cover it up. The behavioral training was tried, yet Becky still wet the bed nightly.

This is when Becky’s mom decided to try homeopathy. She has a best friend who has used homeopathy for her family for years and she finally decided it was time to give it a try. The first visit was interesting. The homeopath seemed certain this was not a problem that homeopathy couldn’t address. “What foods do you like to eat?” asked the homeopath. “Do you like going out side?” “Do you ever get stomach aches?” The questions seemed unrelated to the bed wetting problem, but at the end of the impressively long appointment, the homeopath suggested Pulsatilla 200c which is generally used four times in one day only and repeated twice monthly for two months.

Becky took her remedy dutifully the following day. Astonishingly, four nights later, she was dry! This was the first time she had been dry in her entire life! Becky’s parents were elated and so was Becky, but they were also a little apprehensive. What was in these pills that could cause such a dramatic change? Upon calling the homeopath for reassurance, they were soothed by the information they received. Firstly, the homeopath wasn’t at all surprised that this had occurred so quickly. She then explained that homeopathy is a medicine of gentleness. No side effects, no addictions. In fact, Becky would likely not need to take the remedy for more than those few weeks. An interesting aside is that Becky’s mom also noticed that she was no longer whiny and clingy and was more interested in going to her cousins’ house to play. The homeopath explained that this is the way homeopathy is supposed to work.

Homeopathy simply nudged Becky’s system to bring it to its best place. It does no harm; it causes no distress. It just quietly, gently and politely nudges the sufferer's body to bring itself to its best economy. Becky and her mom are delighted. The homeopath is pleased and the world is a better place.

Homeopathy is the medicine of the people. The Father of Homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, described homeopathy as rational medicine. And indeed it is. In fact, homeopathic remedies are regulated by the FDA and have been since the inception of the FDA in the 1940’s. There are many hundreds of them and never has even one been removed from the market for impurity, detrimental effects or otherwise. No other form of medicine can offer as sterling a reputation as this. Homeopathy is safe, gentle and effective. Can anyone dispute its value in our society? Certainly not Becky and her mom.
