Suffering from acid reflux or heartburn is already unbearable. What more if they are combined and literally call them acid reflux nausea or heartburn nausea? It would be excruciating.
As the name implies, acid reflux nausea or heartburn nausea is one that incorporates nausea with an already painful heartburn.
Heartburn nausea is the uncomfortable feeling in the chest area and being sick down the stomach. There is heat and pressure in the throat and the tendency is to vomit violently. We could just imagine how unbearable that could be.
Heartburn nausea is a severe case of heartburn. The gas and acid in the stomach makes the person ill. The feeling is to throw up all the food that was taken in during the day. Sometimes, the sufferer will try to burp to release some of the gasses in the stomach to have some a relief.
Before going any further, let us differentiate acid reflux from nausea.
What is acid reflux and nausea?
Acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the movement of undigested food with acids from the stomach to the throat passing through the esophagus. A burning sensation in the chest is felt here.
Nausea is an uncomfortable queasy feeling that could be distressing to the stomach with the tendency to vomit. Nausea is a symptom of several conditions brought by the effect of several drugs or the intake of so many sugary foods. It is not a sickness and not common to those people suffering from GERD. Nausea is an occurrence common to people undergoing chemotherapy, general anesthesia and pregnancy.
Causes
Acid reflux is caused by eating fatty foods, high amount of acids, peppermint, spices, tomatoes, large meals and alcoholic beverages. Biologically, those with hernia, ulcer and other problems can experience acid reflux. Smoking, sleeping after every meal and being overweight will make you prone to acid reflux.
Nausea is either psychological or physical. It may be due to brain problems and sickness in the upper gastrointestinal tract like the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder and small intestine. Physically, it may be due to motion, pain, medications and diseases not related to the stomach.
Medications
Acid reflux can be cured by antacids, mucus protecting drugs, promotility drugs and anti-suppressive drugs.
Nausea can be basically treated by the same drugs associated with acid reflux.
Other treatments to consider when suffering acid reflux nausea is by drinking some form of neutralizer usually an herbal remedy. Some of these herbal treatments may include Manuka Honey, ginger tea or papaya.
Suffering from acid reflux nausea can leave you feeling weak and stressed. Experts recommend that a low impact form of exercise has the ability to get you energized once you get over your episode with acid reflux nausea.
As a precautionary measure, it is better to check with your doctor the symptoms before you begin any form of treatment for acid reflux nausea.
