Aed's--the Specs That Matter

AEDs are little, portable devices that evaluate heart rhythms, supply on-scene operators with voice-prompted instructions and, where appropriate, can provide a lifesaving shock to victims of SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest).

According to Richard Hamburg (director of governmental relations for the American Heart Association) "The availability of a defibrillator is a life-and-death matter for someone suffering cardiac arrest".

There are a dozen or so AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) on the market to choose from. So, what make the Zoll Defibrillator so unique??

3 Reasons Why You Should Consider a ZOLL Defibrillator

(Sudden Cardiac Arrest) situation, an SCA victim collapses and is unresponsive. Qualified help arrives with an AED and connects the AED electrodes to the victim. Then the AED orders everybody not to touch the victim while his heart rhythm is being evaluated.

This is where things get interesting...

At this point, one of two things can take place: 1) The AED will instruct shock or 2) the AED will NOT instruct shock - because there isn't a "shockable" rhythm.

Allow me to repeat that: if the AED can't find a shockable rhythm, the AED won't provide a shock. Rather, the AED will instruct the rescuer to "Begin CPR."

Did you know... that in 57.4% of all SCA cases NO shock will be recommended? This means that 57.4% of the time rescuers won't be able to "lean on" the AED for support. Unless...the AED comes with CPR support.

When it comes to CPR support ZOLL Defibrillators are one of the best in their their class. ZOLL Defibrillators supply step-by-step voice prompts and visual screen displays to steer rescuers through the the steps of CPR.

This way, if the chest compressions you apply aren't deep enough, the ZOLL Defibrillator tells you to "press harder". Or, if your compressions are good, the AED will tell you "Good compressions". The ZOLL Defibrillator is also equipped with a beeping metronome to help pace you as you apply chest compressions.

2. ZOLL Defibrillators are the most cost effective defibrillators on the market.

In other words, you will spend a bit more for a ZOLL Defibrillator up front. But, in the long run, you will spend less when when it is time to replace costly batteries and pads.

3. In a side-by-side comparison, conducted by Harvard University, they found that lay rescuers performed more precisely with a ZOLL Defibrillator than any other defibrillator.
