Malaria is an infection of the blood that is carried from person to person by mosquitoes. The disease has been recognized for thousands of years and once was found almost everywhere except in the most northern areas of the world. Malaria has been wiped out in North America, Western Europe, and Russia. It remains a serious problem in much of the tropical and subtropical world.
The seeds of the fever nut plant are another effective remedy for malaria. They can be obtained from a herbal store and preserved in a phial for use when required. About six grams of these seeds should be given with a cup of water two hours before the expected onset of the paroxysm of fever, and a second dose should be given one hour after the attack. The paroxysm can thus be avoided but even if it occurs, the same procedure should be resorted to on that day and it will cut short the fever.
Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal disease which is widespread in many tropical and subtropical countries. It is caught by being bitten by an infected mosquito that is carrying the malaria parasites in its saliva.
Medical treatment should be sought immediately. The effectiveness of ant malarial drugs differs with different species of the parasite and with different stages of the parasite's life cycle. Your physician will determine the treatment plan most appropriate for your individual condition.Drugs includes chloroquine, mefloquine, primaquine, quinine, pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine (Fansidar), and doxycycline. Some plasmodium has developed resistance to certain medications, and therefore, alternative medications will be prescribed for you.
Artemisinins act quickly in your bloodstream; rapidly clearing away parasites and helping you feel better faster. They may also help reduce transmission of the disease by reducing the number of gametocytes — the infective version of the parasite — in your bloodstream. There's little documented resistance to artemisinins, and their combination with other drugs may slow resistance to these companion drugs as well. In addition, ACT has few known side effects and shortens the treatment course from a week to a few days. In the case of ASAQ, it also simplifies treatment with just two pills a day for adults and a single pill a day for children instead of the typical several — sometimes eight — pills.
Malaria occurs where the Anopheles mosquito lives - ie particularly in hot, humid climates. Plasmodium falciparum is by far the most important malaria parasite in Africa.
There are also areas in Latin America, Asia, and Oceania, where malignant malaria still occurs. Plasmodium vivax is the most common in Asia and Latin America, including Central America.
