Are Anxiety and Panic Disorders a Figment of Imagination?

One of the most commonly occurring kinds of anxiety disorders is panic disorder. Panic disorder is characterized by people that repeatedly experience unexpected panic attacks. Most panic attacks can be controlled either naturally by interrupting the thought process or by medication.

Defining anxiety and panic disorders can be a challenge because of the variety and similarities in symptoms. The symptoms of a panic attack, such as irrational worrying, could also be a symptom of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Phobias also fall under the category of anxiety and panic disorders. No one seems to know exactly what initially causes a phobia, and they can be especially difficult to treat. Like most other anxiety and panic disorders, phobias are usually irrational and trigger intense emotion.

Some people suffering from anxiety and panic disorders are simply diagnosed with GAD, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder. GAD is a condition in which the person is experiencing anxiety levels higher than typical, but they do not have panic attacks or suffer from other medical conditions.

Anxiety and panic disorders can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age, nationality or economic status. The good news is that treatments and medications for these disorders are improving. Like so many other disorders, the key is early detection. If you are experiencing increased levels of anxiety, don’t seem to be able to control your thoughts, actions or emotions, seek help immediately. Remember that you are not alone though it may feel that way. You have the power to make a better life for yourself.

Not long ago, a close friend lost his battle with his anxiety disorder. While he was alive, I watched, helpless, as he struggled to strike a balance between a healthy life and managing his disorder. The pain of his passing has left me changed. He shouldn't have died. Somehow, someway there had to be a solution. I don't claim to have the answers, but I find solace in knowledge.
