This auto immune disease is caused by eating too much products with gluten in them like oats, whey and barley.  When this occurs the lining of the small intestine because severely damaged and you may more commonly know it as Sprue. Since the cause of Celiac disease is unknown it can often take a number of treatment options in order to manage the disease. If you allow the disease to take over without proper care then you will soon lack the ability to absorb any of the nutrients that your body needs to survive. You have to be aware of the symptoms too because this disease can develop at any time in a person's life from childhood to adult.

Since the majority of cases are due to hereditary if you do have a family member with the disease you are at even greater risk of being infected. Plus, Celiac disease can cause a lot of other illnesses and conditions alongside it as well. Any of the below conditions can be associated with Celiac disease.

  • Down Syndrome
  • Some intestinal cancers

  • Unexplained fertility or miscarriages
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Osteoporosis

Each person often experiences different symptoms so it is often hard to identify the disease simply off of that. However, below are some of the most commonly reported symptoms of the disease so you can be aware of them.

  • Vertigo and vomiting
  • Stomach pains, gas and bloating
  • Lack of appetite
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Quick and unexplained weight loss
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Constipation

There are also a slew of non-intestinal symptoms like muscle cramps, nose bleeds, seizures, depressing and bone and joint pain. If you are experiencing any symptoms out of the ordinary and feel that you may be at risk for Celiac disease you should definitely consult your physician. Your doctor will do a number of blood tests and counts in order to see if you really do have the disease. There are even some genetic testing options too to see if you are even at risk for the disease.

In the event that you are infected they will go about treatment a number of ways. First off a gluten free diet needs to be pursued for the rest of your life to ensure it doesn't come back. There also may be some oral supplements or tablets that you take in order to keep the gluten count in your body at a manageable rate. Generally, as long as you stay away from anything with gluten you can live a normal life with no health issues. Read the labels on all of your food you buy because gluten is present in quite a bit of the things on the self. While it may be hard and take more time to shop, it is well worth your health.

There are blood tests available that can determine if you are being impacted by gluten. These are not always 100% so the best way to see is an elimination diet monitored by a health care practitioner.
