There is a link between coffee consumption and lower diabetes risk of occurence.

Diabetes is a disorder causing the human body to not make or correctly utilize insulin. Insulin is a hormone which is required to change sugar, starches and other substances into energy needed for living. The reason for developing diabetes is still a puzzle, although both genetics and environmental factors such as being overweight and low physical activity levels seem to be related to developing diabetes.

Coffee consumption has been shown to lessen the chances of developing diabetes.

Studies indicate that folks who consume coffee are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

There is some question as to whether the caffeine or some other ingredient in coffee is responsible for its beneficial properties.

The investigators wanted to verify whether there is a coorelation between diabetes and drinking coffee and green, black, and oolong tea.

People being studied completed a detailed form about their health, lifestyle habits, and how much coffee and tea they consumed. The questionnaire was repeated at the end of the 5-year follow-up period.

When other factors were accounted for, investigators found that the more green tea and coffee participants drank, the less probability they were to develop diabetes. Folks who drank six cups or more of green tea or three or more cups of coffee on a daily basis were about one-third less probable to develop diabetes. The coorelation was stronger in females than males. No pattern was seen with black or oolong tea.

Vitamin D and Calcium May Lessen The Probability for Type 2 Diabetes in Women

Not getting enough vitamin D and calcium may be related to developing type 2 diabetes. Over 80,000 women who participated in the Nurses' Health Study. During a period of 20 years, more than 4,800 women developed type 2 diabetes.

The investigators found that a combined intake of over 1,200 milligrams of calcium and over 800 units of vitamin D was linked with a 33% lower probability for type 2 diabetes (in comparison to women who took much lesser quantities of calcium and vitamin D). The results reveal that taking larger amounts of vitamin D and calcium assist to less the likelihood for type 2 diabetes in women.

Diabetes is a disorder associated with hyper-glycemia or high blood glucose (blood sugar). The human body operates best at a specific amount of glucose in the bloodstream. When the quantity of sugar in the blood is too elevated or not sufficient, then we usually do not feel well or function at our best. Another obstacle in pinpointing the benefits of coffee is that it's difficult to isolate the effects of coffee from other healthy habits or lifestyles associated with coffee drinking. A 1999 study of coffee and tea consumption in Scotland, for instance, found that coffee drinkers were younger, had higher incomes, and were healthier in general than tea drinkers.
