One of the most important aspects of coping with cancer is being able to talk to others who are going through, or have been through similar experiences. Luckily, help is at hand; there are thousands of cancer support groups across the UK which can help anyone who is going through cancer.

There are also all manner of help lines, where patients, or concerned relatives can speak to councillors who have vast experience in the area of cancer, and there are even specialised help lines for certain demographics, for example youth help lines, women's help lines and help lines for specific languages; for example Hindi, Punjabi, or Urdu.

Help lines form a vital part of the cancer support network, as they provide a confidential place to talk and get advice. And they are not just for the cancer sufferer - anyone can call including the friends and family of the sufferer. They provide direct contact with understanding, friendly, professional staff, who can give free, impartial advice and anonymous service, so callers can feel comfortable about discussing their concerns.

The rise of the internet and social networks such as Facebook and MySpace has also benefited those suffering from cancer, with various groups that one can join. There are hundreds of cancer forums, cancer discussion portals and self help cancer mailing lists in which anyone can participate, speak to others and get help and support from a community.

The internet is also a good place to turn to read about cancer symptoms and diagnosis, as well as stories of recovery and hope and messages from well wishers and supporters. There is also a wealth of information about financial help that is available for cancer sufferers; cancer can be expensive, with the cost of prescriptions, special diets and travel all taking their toll on people who may not be able to work during their treatment.

Though the road to cancer recovery can be long, and with much hardship along the way, it is certainly now easier to find cancer support, information, help and hope by taking advantage of the wealth of help lines, cancer forums and cancer support groups that are widely available. Whether it is by phone, by computer or in person, help is always at hand for those who suffer from cancer.

Can you copyright internet forums?
By: Simetra Black | 03-09-2008
I own a rapidly growing adults-only forum which is used as a means for aspiring authors, or those who simply love to write, to practice and inspire eachother with their creativity. However with a recent scare about the possible loss of intelectual property laws I was wondering if its possible to put a copyright on an internet forum without taking away the authors rights to it. Sort of like how publishing companies copyright books, but the author is still the "owner".
