Dirty Air Ducts Can Lead To Bad Health

We all dust our homes, right?  It is kind of amazing to see how quickly dust gathers on your cabinets, appliances, and furniture.  It sometimes seems like you are dusting these things daily, and in many cases, we actually do.  So we are quick to clean up the dust that we see, and we see it all the time.  But what about the dust that we don't see?

The air ducts in your house are constantly collecting dust, just like the rest of your home, but most of us don't have the equipment that we need to clean them, so all of this dust blows around the house.  What exactly is this "dust" made of, you ask?  Well, air ducts collect fungi, bacteria, mold, mildew, dirt of course, and other microbial matter.

It is obvious that all of this dust is going to be bad for people with asthma or allergies, and common sense will tell you that it can't be good for anyone.  Studies have shown  that dirty air ducts are a lot more dangerous than they may seem.  The American College of Allergists has reported that some half of all illnesses are are either worsened or actually caused by poor indoor air quality.  Some of us remember the phenomena of "Legionnaire's Disease" that caused the tragic deaths of twenty-nine individuals back in the Seventies.  This disease came from air ducts.  And according to the EPA, indoor air can be some 70 times more polluted than the air that we breathe outside.

Dirty air ducts are not just a nuisance.  They are a significant health hazard that needs to be addressed.  Breathing these harmful airborne particulates is simply not acceptable for any of us, but the sad fact is that children are most susceptible to the health risks that are posed by poor indoor air quality.  Studies have shown that typical household air ducts contain more germs than the average chicken coop!

Air duct cleaning is not something that most homeowners can or should do for themselves.  Certified specialists like Atlanta Air Duct Cleaning use a specific organic solution that safely eliminates dust and other matter that accumulates in household air ducts.  Plus, they utilize state-of-the art commercial duct cleaning equipment like special portable vacuums, air compressors, agitation devices, and video inspection systems.  Your family's health is not a hit and miss proposition that you should try to protect with a dust mop and a foot stool.  Poor indoor air quality is a serious matter, and it needs to be addressed by licensed professionals who are trained to eradicate these contaminants at their source.
