Nail fungus, also known as ‘onychomycosis’ is a condition that results from fungus, mold, or bacteria infecting the nail bed between your finger or toe nails and the skin underneath. The method of infection is very similar to that of athlete’s foot – It can begin with a single exposure to one of the many microorganisms that can live in your nail bed (found in locker rooms, pools, showers, footwear – places warm and moist) coupled with a persistent warm, moist environment around the infected nails.

Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis (ON-I-ko-my-ko-sis), is a common problem caused by dermatophytes (tinea unguium) (a living organisim) which affects at least 10% of the population. Most people do not seek medical attention so it is hard to know for sure how many people have nail fungus. The most common form of nail fungus occurs on the toenails. The fungus or dermatophyte lives under the protective layer of the nail where it feeds on the keratin.

Are you suffering from toenail infection? Toenail fungal infection can be extremely painful and an embarrassing situation for anyone. Anyone who is suffering from such infection could feel shameful and hesitant from moving on barefoot in front of his friends and acquaintances. There are several medications and home remedies to get rid of toenail fungal infection.

A fungal infection in nail is one of the most difficult nail conditions to cure. Its symptoms are thickening and discoloration of the nail. Some times, the nail may crumble. The first sign of a fungal infection of the nail is a change in colour. The nail often becomes yellow then brown. It gets thicker and develops a bad odor. Debris may collect beneath the nail and white marks frequently appear on the nail.

Getting rid of finger nail fungus is easier in some ways, and more difficult in others. Many people will act on a finger nail infection long before they will start asking how to get rid of toe nail fungus, simply because toes can be kept out of sight, but ugly fingernails are a daily embarrassment. People start getting rid of finger nail fungus before the infection is too far advanced.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is good at fighting finger nail fungus. One draw back is if you stop taking the medicine the fungus will be back within a week. The fastest way to get rid of fingernail is vinegar mixed with a 3% hydrogen peroxide. The mixture is fifty fifty. We should be adding it with a dropper. Some people will feel as slight pinch after awhile. This should be followed by getting the hands soaked in Clorox bleach. For mild infection use one cap for half glass of water and leave your finger with fungus for about a minute.

Oregano is (believed to be) a fungicide and therefore is used in many nail fungus formulas. We don't like or recommend putting oregano essential oil on your skin because it is a dermal irritant. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned since people have (apparently) used it successfuly to get rid of nail fungus.
