Eating Disorders Causes

There is not a single reason why some people might suffer from an eating disorder as there are various different reasons why people might suffer from it.

When we are a young child, we are normally taught the differences between certain feelings, appetite, hunger and fulfillment. It can happen that a child is not properly taught the various differences which can lead to one or several different eating disorders.

It can also be compared to a drug or alcohol addiction. Many addicts use drugs because of the effect it has and both under and over eating can have the same effect on the brain for some individuals.

Research has shown that people who are most likely to suffer from a drug or alcohol addiction are also likely to suffer from an eating disorder.

What we have also seen in over the last few decades that the media has kind of created this ideal type of woman which looks like a skinny fashion model or actress. This has lead to many people to suffer from Anorexia for example as they tried to get to an extremely low level of weight.

Another item which research and studies have shown is that many of these issues are for a part hereditary. What can often be seen is that at least several close family members will suffer from the same disorder.

If both parents suffer from overweight for example, than changes are increased that their kids will also suffer from overweight.

What has also been clearly shown is that more women than men suffer from an eating disorder which is possibly due to society focusing more on the weight and look of women rather than men.

Personality traits can also play an important role in these types of disorders. People who suffer from low self confidence, poor impulse control or even depression are much more likely to develop issues with their eating habits.
