We all need to eat good fats for good basic health. When you suffer with eczema it is even more important that these nutrients are consumed. They heal, lubricate and cleanse the skin.

Good fats contain omega 3 fatty acids as well as omega 6. For good general health your diet should contain a 1:3 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6. Omegas can be found in foods such as sprouted and soaked seeds and nuts, avocados, flax seed oil, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil.

Most people in the west tend to be consuming the bad fats. The bad fats are those that have been heated to high temperatures or processed or both and contain trans fatty acids.

Also bad fats do not contain any nutritional value whatsoever. These bad fats have been linked to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, low birth weight and obesity. They tend to create toxicity in the body which will aggravate damaged or eczematous skin.

One sure fire way of ensuring you keep the amount of bad fats that you consume low is to double check when shopping at the supermarkets.

Look at the labels of the food packs in your shopping trolley. Look out for “shortening,” “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil” or “hydrogenated vegetable oil. These items are very damaging to your body and skin.

These type of ingredients are found in a wide array of food products including biscuits, bread, desserts, junk food, take aways, most fried foods, crisps, cakes peanut butter, and cookies.

Keep away from trans fatty acids because:

#1 - Consumption of trans fatty acids weakens the functioning of your very important immune system.

#2- Consumption of trans fatty acids interferes with cell respiration. The smooth flow of oxygen throughout your body is compromised.

#3 - Consumption of trans fatty acids tends to create blood sugar imbalance.
