Exercise to beat Hypertension

Exercise is, as most people know, very good for us.  It can help prevent all sorts of conditions and also help to relieve many others.

If you have hypertension, or high blood pressure, it is recommended that some light exercise can help lower it. However, you may be worried that regular exercise will increase your blood pressure to dangerous levels.

It is true that physical exercise will cause your blood pressure to rise for a short time. However, after you finish doing the exercise, your blood pressure does return to normal, the quicker this happens the fitter you are.

Below are the types of exercise that help lower blood pressure:

Cardiovascular Exercises: These are the type of exercises that get you breathing slightly heavy and are very good for your lungs and your heart. They include running, cycling, swimming and using machines such as treadmills and rowing machines.

Walking and Jogging: Walking is the ideal way of treating hypertension. Walking not only exercises the body but also improves blood circulation of the body. It also helps in widening the arteries.  Jogging is also very good for treating hypertension.

Strength Training: This is a very important type of exercise for treating hypertension; however, this should always be done moderately as too much intensity could raise blood pressure to dangerous levels, even if only for a short while.

Exercise should always be a part of everyone’s life, especially for people with high blood pressure.  Amongst other benefits, it also helps lower body fat and help you look and feel a lot better as well.

Most people with high blood pressure should be fine to do light to moderate exercise, and this will benefit them enormously.  However, if you have very high blood pressure, you should always consult a doctor before undertaking any strenuous activity, who may even recommend you don’t exercise at all.  This will most likely be just until your blood pressure returns to a safer level with the help of medicines.
