Fever Blister - Home Remedies for Fever Blister

Fever blisters are caused more often by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) than herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). As a matter of fact, more than 85 percent of the world's population has been infected with HSV-1. These infections follow the usual course of herpes simplex virus infections in that the first outbreak is usually more painful and lasts longer than recurrent infections.
Fever blisters are painful fluid filled blisters or "cold sores" that usually occur outside the mouth-on the lips, chin, cheeks or in and on the nostrils.  If they do occur inside the mouth, it is usually on the gums or the roof of the mouth.  Inside the mouth, fever blisters are smaller than canker sores, heal more quickly and often begin as a blister

Herpes simplex virus is highly contagious when fever blisters are present, and the virus frequently is spread by kissing. Children often become infected by contact with parents, siblings or other close relatives who have fever blisters. There are two types of herpes simplex virus. Type 1 usually causes oral herpes, or fever blisters. Type 2 usually causes genital herpes. Although both type 1 and type 2 viruses can infect oral tissues, more than 95 percent of recurrent fever blister outbreaks are caused by the type 1 virus.

Home Remedies for Fever Blister
Drink several cups of sage tea with a dash of powdered ginger till the blisters are not cleared up.
Petroleum jelly can be applied to fever blister to moisturize and soften them so can help to prevent them from cracking and bleeding. Lemon balm contains tannins, which acts as antiviral and astringent. It can help to reduce symptoms and speed up the healing.

Apply ice wrapped in a paper towel directly to the area for at least 30 minutes. This will greatly reduce the blister and itching. I use Herpecin L on my lips until it is completely healed. I have found this product eliminates the itching and the pain. You can but it at Wal-mart.
Steep an ordinary tea bag in boiling water, cool it and then apply to the blister. The blister should disappear within few days.

Tanac acid is a natural astringent.at the first sign, take a tea bag and make tea.then take the used teabag at the hottest temp. you can handle and use it as a compress.
Take a warm tea bag and apply it on the fever blisters for about half an hour. Apply Aloe Vera gel on the sores. Lemon balm extract is considered valuable in healing Herpes infection. Consume foods rich in vitamins. Zinc and iron are also vital. Eat plenty of fruits and green veggies.

Try applying fingernail polish remover every few minutes (it dries quickly) when you are aware of an upcoming outbreak. This sounds extreme (it will not burn unless the sore is advanced), but I have used this treatment for years and apply it with an eye drop bottle and it totally stops the virus from growing into a sore. If you don't catch it until it becomes a blister.
