Garlic Helps Fight Yeast Infections

Yeast infections are a common problem that every women is bound to get at some point in their lives. A yeast infection happens when yeast (Candida albicans) which is prevalent in moist areas of our skin begins to multiply unchecked causing itching, burning, soreness, vaginal discharge, and pain during intercourse. Yeast infections can happen for a number of reasons including having a suppressed immune system, somehow damaging the vaginal walls, or because the good bacteria that are there to keep in check are killed off by antibiotics.

Garlic can help

Garlic has many healing properties and one of its benefits is that it is a natural anti fungal agent. Many women have actually used garlic as a natural remedy to help with mild to moderate bouts of yeast infection. There are several ways that this can be done.

The clove alone
One method involves peeling one garlic clove and then inserting it into your vagina. This could be done overnight or during the day and should be repeated every few hours until the infection clears up.

A clove and some cheesecloth
Another way to utilize garlic to help fight a yeast infection is to peel a clove and then wrap it with some cheesecloth. You then insert it into your vagina letting some of the cheesecloth dangle out like a tampon string. This allows for easy removal and reduces the risk of losing the garlic. You can also opt to tie a small piece of dental floss around the clove before inserting it to further ease the removal process.

Garlic capsules
Another way to utilize garlic is to buy it in dissolvable capsule form. These can be found in many different health food stores and even your local grocery store. Just insert it into your vagina like you do with the clove. Just be sure you get the dissolvable type.

Garlic paste
Another way to use garlic as a home remedy for a yeast infection is to blend a few cloves up in a food processor while adding a little water to make a paste. You can then apply this paste in and around your vagina. This remedy is an effective external remedy for a vaginal yeast infection.

Garlic oil and apple cider vinegar
Another remedy for a yeast infection is to combine garlic oil with diluted apple cider and add it to some warm bath water. Soak in it for twenty minutes and then be sure to fully dry yourself off to prevent yeast growth. This solution can also be used a douche.

Side effects

Using garlic to treat you yeast infection is considered a safe and natural way to tackle this unpleasant problem but be aware that it is not for everyone. Some people have an allergic reaction to garlic, especially when it is applied topically so if you experience any extra itching or burning, stop using it. Garlic is also known for its pungent smell, so it is best not to use this home remedy unless you plan on staying in for the evening.
