A bacteria infection is a detrimental colonization of a host organism by bacteria. The word colonization is used to show the existence of non-replicating micro-organisms like the bacteria present in a given wound. Here, the bacteria interferes with the normal functioning of the host's body cells and usually leads to worsening the wound or even causing death if no proper medication is provided. Various symptoms such as localized Redness, swelling, heat and pain characterize these bacterial infections.
Unlike other kinds of infections which are able to be experienced in several body parts, a bacteria infection usually affects a particular part of the body at a time. For example, when you get a cut on your leg and bacteria infect it, you will only feel pain on that part of the body where the wound is situated and not any other place. This kind of pain is referred to as local pain which means pain that is in a specific part of the body. It is however important to note that, when a bacteria infection is not attended to in good time, the body part where the wound is situated for example the leg may have to be cut off to prevent the infection from spreading further.
Bacteria uses several entry methods to their host before infecting them. They can enter through the nose as some bacteria are transmitted through air, they can be carried to open wounds by bacteria-carrying organisms like flies or even rats and finally, they can attach themselves to the food or water that we usually ingest in our bodies and be passed in along with it.
A common example of a bacteria infection is the ear infection. When you realize that one ear hurts while the other ear does not and some pus is being emitted from the ear that hurts, always suspect a bacteria infection though a doctor's consultancy is advised. This condition can easily be treated by the doctor as he needs only to prescribe to you the right types of antibiotics for you to take for treatment.
As a result of medical researches and technological evolutions, it is now possible to detect and recognize a bacteria infection easily. Scientists at Sheffield University were able to come up with a way of using light to rapidly notice the existence of bacteria in a wound. A specially made portable kit which contains some well designed molecules is to be used to conduct this job. The molecules emit light signals whenever they are bound to bacteria.
Treatment for a bacteria infection is however available to patients who need it. For sometime now, antibiotics have been used to treat this condition. The reason behind this is that, bacteria use a substance known as peptidoglycan polymers to form their outer cell cover and in the process, the substance helps them have a defining shape. Meanwhile, antibiotics are said to interfere with the formation of peptidoglycan polymers. This means that, when you take antibiotics you make the living conditions for the bacteria unfavorable due to the fact that their outer cell covers will be destroyed hence being killed in the process.
So if you suspect that you have a bacteria infection, do not wait until the infection becomes worse or to the point that it cannot be treated. Run to the nearest doctor and get help.
