Causes of Gout:

The main cause of gout is urate which is commonly known as uric acid. This uric acid is a waste product which is present in the blood. Urate is formed from substances called purines which are found in every cell in the body and certain foods. The excess urate in the body is passed through kidneys an out of urine.

The Urate level becomes high if kidneys don't pass the urate out of the body through urine or if the body produced excess urate.

If the urate level is high they form tiny crystal and stored in the tissues particularly at joints which causes swelling and pain.

The exact reason for the formation of the gouts is still unknown. Some people have high urate level and still don't have gout. And some people don't have high urate level but have gout. So the reason for gout is unknown.

But people with following reasons are more likely to have gout:

  • Overweight
  • Have a family history of gout
