How to Stop Hyperhidrosis - Prevent Excessive Sweat Problems

Excessive sweat (also known as hyperhidrosis) is a problem for many people, but it is something that is generally curable or at least avoidable.  There are a lot of ways that you can prevent sweat, be it antiperspirants, botox injections, or even surgery.  All of these have their benefits and dangers, so it's important to understand what will work and what won't.

Before I start telling you how to stop excessive sweating, I just want to let you know why you actually sweat.  People sweat for multiple reasons, but the main one is thermoregulation, which means you sweat to maintain your body temperature.  When you start to become hot, your body sweats.  When the water evaporates, it takes some energy from your skin and cools it off as a result.  Sweating is also important in maintaining electrolyte balance, something that's important for hydration.  With that in mind, you'll see that you don't want to stop sweating entirely, since that can definitely be a bad thing.  Having a little bit of sweat is always good and will have no negative effects on your health.

With that in mind, hyperhidrosis is a debilitating disorder in that it reduces the afflicted's quality of life.  If your sweating is making it embarassing or difficult to go out in public, get that promotion at work, or be taken seriously by your peers, then you need to find a way to fix it.

The most common way that excessive sweat / hyperhidrosis is treated is through the use of prescription antiperspirants.  These can be useful, but it's important to remember that they're not an end-all and the active ingredient in them can cause irritation for a lot of people, especially those with sensitive skin.  I don't recommend using this to reduce sweat, although it does have its uses, especially if you don't mind being irritated.  With that in mind, it's not that useful for sweaty hands, which are very common.
