Ringworm is a fungal infection that is also called "Tinea". It's an infection that can be present on any part of the body. Taking in to account its name, ringworm is not caused by a worm. Anti-fungal creams can be purchased for this infection, and are usually combined with a mild antiseptic and a mild steroid to reduce your itching. Keeping the infected area clean and well aired plays an important role in healing this infection. If your over the counter treatment fails, or the infection is widespread, you should see your doctor. He can prescribe you some oral medication such as fluconazole.

Luckily, this type of fungal infection is rather easy to diagnose and relieve. Doctors can usually diagnose ringworm based on how it looks, but on occasions they will scrape off a small sample of the infected area to test it for fungus.

Your doctor will recommend an anti-fungal cream for your ringworm of the skin or an oral medication for your scalp and nail ringworm infection.
