Kidney Stone Prevention - Know the Myths and Facts of Prevention

What we intake and ingest plays a major role in our quest for kidney stone prevention. We may read several materials informing us to avoid this and that but there are some other explanations we need, to learn about them.

We have to know which are facts and which are myths, although the information we get can sometimes be confusing. In any case, the doctor can always decide as to which of the dietary measures are best for you if you are in need of a kidney stone prevention diet.

Here are some dietary facts, which you may refer to your doctor for confirmation:

1. Reducing calcium intakes is not always the answer in kidney stone prevention. Some researches have it that calcium deficiency will also result to kidney disorder since the lack of calcium nutrients will tend to overwork the kidneys.

2. Spinach and asparagus are rich in calcium oxalates; however they are also fiber rich which is good for absorbing oxalates in the intestines.

3. Drinking soft drinks can also be helpful because it contains phosphoric acids. Phosphoric acids can help in dissolving kidney stones.

4. Intakes of coffee can cause kidney stones. However, other findings show that coffee has a diuretic effect meaning it promotes frequently relieving one's self of urine stored in the bladder.

5. Vitamin C can result to stone formation since it is ascorbic acid. Ascorbic can be broken down by the body as oxalate acids. However, other researchers claim that there is no direct link between ascorbic acids and kidney stone formation.

6. Eating junk food can cause kidney stones especially among children. There is a lot of possibility to this, since junk foods may contain insoluble proteins and fats.

Regardless of whether the above facts are true or not, the following facts are proven and tested in kidney stone prevention:

Drinking plenty of water is still the best kidney stone prevention since it has no additive whatsoever. Our best course of action in kidney stone prevention is to flush out insoluble wastes in order to prevent them from combining with the oxalates.

Keeping our body replenished with fluids can do a lot for kidney prevention. Fruit juices, coffee or soft drinks are all right as long as they are not taken excessively and should not be taken in as alternative to water. These beverages have the tendency to result to dehydration; hence you will also need plenty of water to satiate your thirst.

Exercise is a good way for kidney stone prevention method because it can motivate your body to function well. Sweating out other wastes in the blood is a good way to excrete other salt insoluble. This also promotes thirst hence an individual tends to have more craving for water.

Preference for high fiber vegetables aids in kidney stone prevention. Insoluble wastes can be absorbed by highly fibrous substances right in the intestine. Hence, these insoluble can be excreted through the large intestines and need not pass through the kidney for filtration processes.

Your choice of kidney stone prevention methods will always depend on your determination. You may not have preference for large consumption of water but you can opt to eat more fruits with water content. Hence, if you are really determined to prevent your kidney stones from recurring, choose the method you can dedicate yourself to.
