It is one thing to get a person through an addiction treatment program and quite another to get them convinced for it. The rate of denial is quite high among addiction patients all over, but it is significantly high in Colorado. Estimates suggest that 9 in 10 of all addicts are not into an addiction treatment program in Colorado just because they are still in denial about their addiction and feel that they do not need any treatment for it. This is a significant impediment for the success of the overall addiction treatment program in Colorado.
If there is someone in your family who is denying addiction treatment, then what you need is to plan out an intervention program. An intervention is a process in which you participate in someone's treatment program. The main duties of an intervention are to encourage the person to get into treatment and to morally support and guide them so that they get through the treatment and move towards complete recovery. You can plan out such a program yourself by gathering some members of the family and some friends of the patient in question, but in order to make the program effective, it is best that you get it effectively done.
An intervention specialist, also known as an interventionist can be a major help while organizing an addiction treatment program. They can guide you and tell you some tried and tested methods that have worked in the past to bring people into treatment. You can plan an effective treatment program with their help. This is how an interventionist will help you in motivating the patient for treatment.
1. The first thing that they will do is to help you form a group of people who will work at getting the patient into treatment. You will be told to ideally include people from the family itself because they will be most dedicated to such an exercise. You can also include some friends of the patient in the group, provided they are good candidates for the intervention themselves. In some cases, there could be an effective person included, such as an employer who could provide incentives for the patient if he or she recovers from the addiction or a religious figure who can spiritually motivate the patient to get into treatment. The addiction treatment program in Colorado usually suggests three to four people as the ideal strength of an intervention program.
2. Now, the interventionist will hold a meeting with the group of people. The aims and objectives of the intervention will be clarified, i.e. whether the group is made just to motivate the patient to get into treatment or will also be with the patient until the recovery. What each person can contribute to removing the denial of the patient is also noted down. This is the phase where every person of the intervention is made aware of the seriousness of the activity that they are involving themselves with, and the returns at the end of it, which will be getting the addicted person closer to recovery.
3. Once the goals and missions have been set up, the interventionist will guide the group on how to encourage the patient effectively. This will mostly be done by asking everyone of the intervention to prepare a speech that they would deliver to the patient by way of motivating them. These speeches will mostly contain one or more of these three things as their primary element: the love and affection the speaker has for the patient, an explanation that addiction treatment is not quite difficult and can easily be gone through or the incentives that the patient would get after the recovery, which could be a healthier lifestyle or simply some material things. Every person will prepare a unique speech depending on how they are related with the patient.
4. With the speeches done, the intervention will check them to see if they are effective. Modifications might be suggested. Then, the people from the group are asked to rehearse these speeches so that they do not falter when they are delivering these to the patient. It is important that they evoke the right kind of emotions and sentiments when they are delivering these speeches.
5. A day is appointed when the intervention group will meet with the patient with the patient in tow. People from the intervention will speak to the patient in group as well as individually. The speeches will be delivered as per convenience. The effectiveness of the program depends on how well all this is done.
It is not necessary that the person will be convinced to get into treatment at the first attempt itself. Sometimes, more than one meeting is needed. Most intervention programs for addiction treatment program in Colorado are relentless, in that they will persist till the patient gets ready to accept treatment.
