Indigestion resulting from hyperchlorhydria; often used colloquially as a synonym for pyrosis. Indigestion is the term used to describe pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen or chest after meals. Sometimes it is also used to describe a distinctive burning feeling in the chest, known as heartburn. Acid indigestion should be distinguished from heartburn, which typically involves aggravation of the esophagus. Indigestion and heartburn are common problems for both kids and grownups.
