Rotator Cuff Injury - Learn How to Recover From it Fast and Naturally

A rotator cuff injury can be the result of different factors, including accident or trauma, wear and tear or inflammation. When injured in a fall or while playing a sport, the most common outcome can be a torn rotator cuff, or a dislocated shoulder. Rest is then recommended in order to restore tendons functionality first, after which a period of rehabilitation should follow to regain mobility and strengthen the shoulder.

However, most of the time a rotator cuff injury can occur spontaneously as a result of repetitive movements in a particular job. Other times not even stressing motions are necessary for the onset of a condition. A shoulder injury is more frequent in people over 40 but it can also strike at any age and gender group. Some of the most common conditions are the Impingement Syndrome and the Frozen Shoulder.

The Impingement Syndrome takes its name from the pinching, snapping feeling associated with shoulder movement, whereas the Bursa and the Tendons of the Rotator Cuff become inflamed, thus restricting space between in the shoulder joint. The narrow space generates a self fueling condition of high friction and wear and tear in the area, leading in turn to more inflammation, pain and pinching.

A Frozen Shoulder, also called Adhesive Capsulitis, is instead caused by scars of the capsule membrane covering the rotator cuff. These scars are called Adhesions (thus the name), which eventually build up making the capsule thicker and harder, restricting motion between the shoulder bones and limiting range of motion as a consequence.

To recover from these conditions and ailments, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen are usually prescribed in order to reduce inflammation and pain to begin with. In more sever cases prescription drugs or cortisone injections may be administered, or even surgery or manipulation performed under general anesthesia. As always drugs can only cure the symptoms, not the root cause of the problem.

The best way to recover from a shoulder injury is through a professional rotator cuff rehabilitation program. This can greatly reduce recovering times to few weeks rather than many months, sometimes few years. This should not come as a surprise because the rotator cuff is by far the most complicated joint of the human body and it is standard ware for it to take months or years to heal naturally, depending on gravity.
