Sciatic Pain Relief – Coping With The Sciatica Nightmare

The long sciatic nerve runs all the way from the foot up to the lower back. It is a thick nerve near the back and as such, can become trapped, squeezed and pinched. This always results in discomfort or even agony.

The pain can last for a long time and for many people the situation can make them feel desperate. The pain just seems to linger and never go away and often simple movements or just sitting can make it flare up even more.

Finding some form of sciatic pain relief becomes a important goal. As a first choice, painkillers are often used but these do nothing to cure the problem, only help you cope with it. It is the obvious choice of doctors and drug companies who enjoy the profits these bring them.

Since most of us don't want to live using painkillers and other drugs all the time and are interested in more permanent alternatives. Suffering from side effects from the painkillers and muscle relaxants is just another problem that can make life even more miserable.

One of the most popular treatments to address the actual problem and not the symptoms is the use of exercise and stretching techniques. Unfortunately many people find these very painful to start with.

Hot an cold presses used alternatively do seem to give some relief but again probably do nothing to cure the underlying problem causing the sciatica. In extreme cases of sciatica nerve pain, especially when the cause is an injury, doctors may recommend surgery. Surgery is always risky and of course is very expensive so is often regarded as a last resort.

If you are suffering form sciatica then it is best to consult with a doctor to try and discover the actual cause of the problem. This may open more sciatica pain relief options for example, specific exercise of the piriformis muscle which is often a cause of sciatica leg pain.

There are many alternative treatments that have worked for many people like acupuncture or infra red sauna combined with massage. Often conventional medicine disapproves of these treatments simply because it reduces their financial income. It is best to keep an open mind and decide for yourself. It is your body.
