Gout is due to the build up of the uric acid content in the body. This uric acid build up leads to formation of the uric acid crystals at the region near joints. Gout is one of the metabolic disease. The main cause of the build up of the uric acid content is the body unable to process a protein known as purine or it may also be due to kidneys unable to throw out excessive uric acid.

The main aim of the gout treatment is to lower the purine in the body and avoiding foods which are rich in the purine content. Gout is more seen in men as compared to women. It generally occurs to men in the age of 30 to 60 and to women it is after their menopause.

Big toe is the main target of gout. Apart from it the other joints which are also affected by the gout are fingers, elbow, wrist, foot, ankle.

The Uric acid is a waste product which is present in the blood and is removed by the kidneys. If there is excessive production of uric acid it effects the working of the kidneys and there is a build up of the uric acid levels in the body known as a condition Hyperuricemia.

The excess uric acid forms crystals at the region near joints and this makes lot of pain in the affected area. Generally the first gout attacks are the night time and a person wakes up due to intense pain.

People suffering with gout need to avoid food which are rich in purine content like gravy, sea food, anchovies, liver, especially wine and beer. Beer is known to have highest level of the purine content.

Diagnosis of gout is difficult because sometimes people with high uric acid levels show no symptoms of gout and sometimes people with low uric acid levels show gout symptoms. Generally a doctor insert a needle at the affected joint and takes out the lubricant fluid known as synovial fluid and observes under a microscope to see whether there are crystals of uric acid.

Some of the natural treatments for gout are

Drinking lot of fluids especially water

Reducing meat content in the meals

Eating plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, grains, seeds and nuts

Exercise daily

Reducing the extra body weight

Some of the complications of the gout are kidneys stones, some of the symptoms of the kidney stone are intense pain in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, chills, fever and blood in the urine.
