Some Information About The Twelve Step Program For Alcohol Addiction In Florida

Since the time the Alcoholics Anonymous has established itself, its programs have reached international appeal. Among these is the Twelve Step Program. The Twelve Step Program has become very popular for the purpose of alcohol addiction in Florida among other states. First introduced in the 1900s for alcohol treatment by the Alcoholics Anonymous, the program has now become widely accepted as one of the most potent forms of treatment.

The Twelve Step Program for alcohol addiction, as the name suggests, contains twelve different stages. These are formulated in twelve points, which form the crux of the treatment. As the treatment progresses, each of these points are implemented, in a sequential manner.

It can be observed for this program of alcohol addiction in Florida that:-

1. The program is a deeply spiritual program, but it is not religious. Though the program invokes a divine power to help people with their alcohol treatment, it does not adhere to any one particular religion.
2. The program also does not have any political affiliation.
3. The program is non-discriminatory and does not confine itself to any one community, gender, age or any other such group of people.

Due to its nature, the Twelve Step Program has become widely accepted in the state. Even other forms of addiction treatment, such as narcotics treatment, heroin treatment, cocaine treatment, etc. have adapted this program to their needs with the necessary modifications.

The following are the main steps of the Twelve Step Program as it is adapted for alcohol addiction in Florida.

1. The first step is an intervention. A realization is created in the minds of people that they have no power over their alcoholic habit and that the habit has made their lives unmanageable.
2. The second step is creating awareness in the alcoholics that it is not possible for them to come out of the addiction themselves. They will need to rely on a higher authority (God) to deliver them from this problem.
3. The third step is to wholly accept the authority of God and to trust in Him to bring them out of their problem.
4. The fourth step is to probe into self and to create a moral inventory of self.
5. The first step is confession. This is where the person will be made to accept unto himself or herself that things have gone wrong due to their alcoholic habit. They have to make this confession unto themselves, unto God and unto another human volunteer who will help them get out of their problem.
6. The sixth step is to ask God to give them strength to come out of these characteristic defects.
7. The seventh step is prayer. The alcoholic person is to pray to God to help him or her come out of all their deficiencies so that their life can be improved.
8. The eighth step is to create an inventory of all persons who were harmed due to the alcoholic habit and to express a willingness to correct all these wrongs.
9. The ninth step is to actually make these amends. However, if in making amends someone may be hurt or harmed, it is better to let things be as they are.
10. The tenth step is to continue the process of realizing where the mistakes have happened and to make corrections where possible.
11. The eleventh step is to pray to God and meditate to continue asking for His blessings and guidance.
12. The twelfth step is reaching out. Once the alcoholic has sufficiently come out of his or her habit, the message should be brought out to others so that more people can be benefited.

Thus, the Twelve Step Program as applied to alcohol addiction in Florida is an exhaustive program that intends to take people from alcoholism to sobriety. The program is designed in such a manner that it includes various aspects of treatment, including intervention to recovery.

Today, the program is found quite prominently used in almost every alcohol rehab center in Florida during the aftercare phase. It is a wonderful inclusion during this stage where the person is being made aware of the importance of staying away from alcohol. They are first led through the detoxification program where they are cleansed bodily of the presence of alcohol in their bodies and then led through the aftercare program where the Twelve Step Program is implemented.

There are also several spiritual programs where the Twelve Step Program is used as a sole program. These programs can be availed of through the Internet and even through religious institutions where the programs are widely promoted.
