Some Information on a Stop Snoring Surgery

If you're considering a stop snoring surgery, keep in mind that while any procedure you opt for will no doubt be relatively minor and quick, there are other options you should explore to help with your snoring. For instance, many sufferers have reported great success with a snore pillow or with the use of nasal strips, those small strips that you wear outside your nose to gently pull it open a bit.

Adding a humidifier to your bedroom and using some marjoram oil by the side of your bed can also help greatly. However, if you doctor or dentist has said that a stop snoring surgery is your best option, and your snoring is at the point where such a surgery is necessary, then we have some basic information for you to consider.

For one thing, a stop snoring surgery may very well save your life. People often don't think of snoring as being such a major health crisis, but in reality it certainly can be. When your snoring interrupts your sleep this can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness with the chance of falling asleep at inappropriate times (such as behind the wheel of a car or while operating machinery at work). It can also lead to long-term damage of the throat and sinuses.

Lack of sleep can contribute to such conditions as diabetes and heart disease. And if you snore because of sleep apnea, which is when you actually stop breathing for a few seconds during sleep, this can lead to actual brain damage because of the lack of oxygen and even to death. So a stop snoring surgery can be very important indeed! It is also important to think of the health of the person trying to sleep next to you. If he or she has sleep interrupted constantly then this can lead to serious health problems for them as well.

A stop snoring surgery is usually relatively minor and done under local anesthesia. Typically the procedure involves cutting away some excess flesh that is on the soft palate, which is the part of the roof of the mouth in the back. The stop snoring surgery of this type is done by a doctor or a dentist, and typically uses lasers rather than scalpels as this means less bleeding and smaller incisions.

The reason that a stop snoring surgery of this type works is because when there is excessive flesh on the soft palate, it tends to vibrate when you breathe through your mouth. This vibration is what we call snoring.

Most who have this type of stop snoring surgery find that it rarely interferes with their normal routine. They may have some discomfort for a day or two and need to stay on a soft foods diet for this long and perhaps a week or two at the most, but find that they return to their normal routine relatively quickly an easily. While you cannot drive yourself home after the surgery, the majority of patients can return to work the next day and usually have no problems with their speech, swallowing, or anything else. And the good news about such a stop snoring surgery is that it generally seems to work for those who have chronic problems with snoring. They often find that not only does the snoring stop but that they are breathing better and sleeping better as well.

So if your doctor or dentist has recommended a stop snoring surgery for you, it may be a very good idea to follow through with their recommendations and go forward with the procedure.
