Some Precautions Against Ferret Disease

Posted: Jan 14, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

One of the things that ferret owners should be aware of, is that they will need to take certain steps to try to avoid any sort of ferret disease affecting their pets.  Your new pet should be  getting, or should have had, all of his required inoculations.  These essential inoculations will help to protect him against rabies, and will give him ongoing protection.

Below Are Some Of The Things To Be Aware Of

1.  I know that feeding pets can work out to be expensive, especially if you have more than one.  What you feed your pets on however should be based on quality, rather than on the actual cost.  I know that keeping pets can work out to be expensive, but what you have to think about is that to cut on the cost of your pets diet, could have an affect on your ferrets health.

2.  kibble is probably one of main things that ferret owners feed their pets on.  You should when purchasing kibble, make sure that the brand you get does not contain any additives that might affect your pets health.  The kibble will also have to be moistened with warm water prior to you giving it to your pet.  This will make it far easier for them to digest, and should prevent them from suffering from a blockage in the intestines.

3.  The food that you supply your pet with should contain calcium, this ingredient is very important to maintain your pets health.  Many canned or packaged ferret foods, do not include any high quality bone meal.  So it is essential that you include this as part of their diet.

4.  Try to steer clear of diets that contain too many carbohydrates, these can lead to high levels of insulin, and this will lead to high levels of glucose in the blood.

ferrets, in their natural environments, are strict carnivores by nature.  Before people started to keep them as pets, they used to feed exclusively of meat and bones.  This meat diet used to kept them fit and healthy, this was because they were getting the vitamins and minerals that their bodies required.

If you decide that you do not want to feed your pet on meat products, then try to ensure that they are getting a high quality bone meal in their diet.
